Poonch, July 15 (JKNS): Havildar Mohammad Iqbal of the Assam Rifles, who was killed in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nagaland earlier this week, was laid to rest with full military honours in his native Kallar village of Poonch district on Wednesday, with a large number of mourners, officials and security personnel paying their final respects.
The mortal remains of the soldier were brought to his ancestral village, where emotional scenes unfolded as family members, relatives and residents gathered to bid him a final farewell. The tricolour-draped coffin was received with military honours before the last rites were performed.
As per news agency JKNS, Havildar Mohammad Iqbal was killed on July 13 after a suspected IED exploded near an Assam Rifles convoy in Chümoukedima district of Nagaland. Four security personnel and a civilian were also injured in the blast.
The attack reportedly targeted the convoy while it was moving through the area, following which security agencies launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
Senior civil and police officials, Army personnel, public representatives and local residents attended the funeral and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family. They paid rich tributes to the fallen soldier, remembering him for his courage, dedication and selfless service to the nation.
The funeral concluded with full military honours as Army personnel presented the ceremonial salute while mourners raised patriotic slogans in memory of the brave soldier. (JKNS)
