The Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), commonly believed to be a strand of his hair, was displayed for public viewing following the Fajr prayers amid recitations of Durood-o-Azkar.

Special nightlong prayers and supplications were held at Hazratbal and other prominent shrines across Kashmir, including Jenab Sahib Soura, Asar-e-Shareef Shahr-e-Kalashpora, Khanqah-e-Maula, Ziarat Peer Dastgeer Sahib (RA) at Khanyar and Sarai Payeen, Shrine of Syed Yaqoob Sahib (RA) Sonwar, Khawaja Naqshband Sahib (RA) and Ziarat Makhdoom Sahib (RA).

Large gatherings of men, women and children participated in the nightlong prayers, with thousands more joining the Fajr prayers on Saturday.

As the day progressed, a massive gathering of devotees was witnessed in the shrine and surrounding lawns, particularly during the Zuhr and Asr prayers.

The Holy Relic was displayed following each prayer, while religious scholars and preachers highlighted the life, teachings and message of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Several Milad processions were also taken out in different parts of Srinagar, including uptown and the old city areas.

Congregational gatherings were reported from various districts of north and south Kashmir, including Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and Anantnag.

The district administration had made elaborate arrangements at Hazratbal for the devotees, with medical camps established around the shrine. Traffic Police also issued a route plan to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles and devotees.

Roads and streets leading to Hazratbal were decorated with colourful buntings, while markets surrounding the shrine wore a festive look on the occasion. (JKNS)
