Budgam, August 26: Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Beerwah has formally commenced laparoscopic surgery services, with two successful laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) procedures performed on Wednesday.

The procedures were carried out as token cases by the hospital’s surgical and anaesthesia teams, marking an important step towards the introduction of laparoscopic surgery services at SDH Beerwah.

The surgical team comprised Dr. Intikhab Alam, Dr. Irshad Lone, Medical Officer Surgeon, Showkat Gul, Imtiyaz Reshi, and Neelofar Jan. The anaesthesia team was led by Consultant Anaesthetist Dr. Arif Waqil, assisted by Dr. Ghulam Mohammad and Shamim Agha.

With laparoscopic surgery now available at SDH Beerwah, patients from the area will be able to access minimally invasive and less painful surgical treatment closer to home, reducing the need to travel to distant major medical centres for such procedures.

The launch of the service has also expanded the range of surgical services available at the hospital and further strengthened its capacity to provide specialised medical care at the local level.

According to the hospital administration, the achievement was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the surgical, anaesthesia, nursing, technical and other medical staff.
