Indian Army Reaches Out to Gujjar and Bakkarwal Community in Mahore, Reaffirms Welfare Support

Srinagar, Apr 11 (JKNS): The Gujjar and Bakkarwal meet was organised by 58 Rashtriya Rifles at Mahore to recognise the role of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities, highlight the hardships being faced by them, and reaffirm the Indian Army’s support for their welfare.

The event was attended by senior Army officials along with Ch Aijaz Ahmad Khan, former Minister, Revenue Department J&K, Haji Mohammad Yousuf Majnu, President Gujjar Bakkarwal Community J&K, Mohammad Yaseen Poswal, General Secretary, J&K, Akhlaq Choudhary, Administrator-cum-Executive Officer, J&K Waqf Board District Reasi and BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha Prabhari Reasi, Shafqat Majeed Bhat, SDM Mahore, Parul Bhardwaj, SDPO Mahore, and several other dignitaries.

The speakers highlighted that the traditional migratory pastoralism of the community is essential for maintaining ecological balance. They also raised concerns regarding persistent challenges, including limited access to education and healthcare, livelihood vulnerabilities, seasonal displacement, and issues related to grazing land and mobility.

 

The Army, while acknowledging the hardships, outlined ongoing support measures including healthcare outreach, livelihood assistance, and improved communication facilities along remote migratory routes.

 

The Gujjar and Bakkarwal community welcomed the initiative of the Indian Army and assured continued cooperation and support. — (JKNS)
