“If we want Jammu and Kashmir to become an attractive destination for filmmaking, then human talent and post-production capability must be created locally. That is where a relationship with an institution like IICT becomes important for us,” CM Omar Abdullah said as per the news agency JKNS.

The Chief Minister said collaborations with national-level creative institutions can help equip J&K’s youth with industry-relevant skills in filmmaking, animation, visual effects, gaming, and immersive technologies, while also creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

He noted that student exchange programmes, skill development initiatives, and exposure to advanced creative technologies would play a key role in building a sustainable creative economy in Jammu & Kashmir.

During the visit, Omar Abdullah was briefed about IICT’s academic framework and technological infrastructure and witnessed demonstrations of augmented reality, virtual reality and digital twin technologies, which he said have potential applications in filmmaking, post-production, and digital preservation of J&K’s cultural heritage.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by senior officials and was hosted by IICT CEO Dr. Vishwas Deoskar and Governing Council Member Munjal Shroff. —(JKNS)
