Srinagar, Jan 16 (JKNS): Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Friday firmly rejected claims that the Omar Abdullah-led government is biased against Jammu, saying the revival of the Darbar Move is a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to the region.

Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS Choudhary addressed ongoing political narratives in the Union Territory, taking aim at some leaders raising controversial issues.

“Certain individuals, like Sajad Lone, should focus on safeguarding their own households instead of stirring debates over Jammu and Kashmir. They should prioritize unity at home and avoid creating unnecessary controversies. Jammu and Kashmir belongs to all of us it was shaped by our forefathers, from Maharaja Gulab Singh and Maharaja Hari Singh to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. The region has survived wars, invasions, and crises and has emerged stronger,” he said.

Choudhary further stressed, “If Omar sahib was anti-Jammu, why would the Darbar Move have been revived?” He recalled that the historic practice had been suspended during the BJP government and later restored under the National Conference administration, underlining its significance for Jammu’s people.

Turning to Ladakh, the Deputy Chief Minister said the region is “wailing” after being carved out as a Union Territory and warned that similar demands for separate statehood could negatively affect Jammu. He alleged that certain groups are deliberately attempting to politicize the region by pushing the statehood narrative.

Questioning selective outrage, Choudhary asked, “Why were these voices silent when the Darbar Move was closed earlier? Why didn’t they speak then?” He stressed that such politically motivated debates distract from more pressing governance issues.

“These are immaterial issues. The real focus should be on development, job creation, and public welfare. That is what the people of Jammu expect and deserve,” Dy CM Choudhary said. (JKNS)
