The initiative is aimed at providing women commuters with a dedicated and more comfortable mode of public transport, particularly for those travelling alone or during busy commuting hours.

Speaking about the initiative, a passenger namely Huzaifa said, “This is a very good initiative for women. We can travel more comfortably and feel safer, especially when travelling alone.”

Another passenger, said, “Women often face difficulties while travelling in crowded public transport. Having e-rickshaws reserved for women is a positive step and will give us more confidence during our daily commute.”

Aqib Shabir another commuter, said, “This facility will be especially helpful for students, working women and those who regularly travel through busy areas of Srinagar. More such facilities should be introduced at other places as well.”

A female commuter from Batamaloo said, “It is good to see an initiative focused on women’s safety. If the service is expanded to more routes, it will benefit many women who depend on public transport every day.”

The move could help women travel with greater confidence and provide an additional public transport option designed specifically around their safety and convenience. It may also encourage more women to use public transport for their daily commute.

The initiative is particularly significant in busy areas of Srinagar where women often rely on shared public transport for travel to workplaces, educational institutions, markets and other destinations. (JKNS)
