NEW DELHI – In a notable shift from recent tensions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump have publicly expressed optimism regarding the future of the India-US partnership. In a social media post on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi referred to the two nations as “close friends and natural partners” and voiced confidence that ongoing trade negotiations will unlock “limitless potential” for both countries.

Modi’s statement came in response to recent positive remarks from President Trump, who had announced on his social media platform that the two countries were “continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers.” Trump also referred to Modi as a “very good friend” and expressed certainty that the trade talks would come to a “successful conclusion for both of our Great Countries.”

The exchange marks a significant de-escalation of tensions that have strained the bilateral relationship in recent months. The Trump administration had imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, citing New Delhi’s continued purchase of discounted Russian crude oil. India, for its part, has defended its stance, citing national energy security and market dynamics.

Both leaders affirmed that their respective teams are working to conclude the discussions at the earliest, with Modi adding that he looks forward to speaking with President Trump soon. The positive remarks from both sides are seen as a signal that a resolution to the trade impasse may be on the horizon, paving the way for a more collaborative future for the two nations.
