The function also marked the celebrations by the BJP workers at Nand Palace, Dhar Road, to hail yet another landslide victory in the elections to Legislative Assembly in four states, reflecting the strength of the party, which remains a cherished dream for the rank and file.

Leading large number of workers to pay floral tribute to Lalaji, senior leaders Mr Pawan Kumar Gupta, Mr Devender Singh Rana, Mr Satish Sharma and Mr Baldev Raj Sharma, President Municipal Council Udhampur recalled the commitment of the late leader towards nation and service to the people and making the BJP a mass movement in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Speakers recalled the yeomen services of the legendary leader Lala Shiv Charan Gupta, born on March 3, 1925 at Udhampur, and his political odyssey. Lalaji was jailed twice by the Sheikh Abdullah regime during the Praja Parishad agitation.

Lala Shiv Charan Gupta was elected to the State Legislative Assembly four times and worked tirelessly in various capacities to serve the people and strengthen the party at the grassroots level. His role in the socio-political arena remained enviable all along. Lalaji remained President Beopar Mandal, Udhampur, General Secretary Cow Protection Samiti, Chief Organizer of Social Sudhar Sabha, President Ram Leela Club, Udhampur, Vice-Chairman of Town Area Committee, Udhampur, Zonal Secretary of Praja Parishad, Udhampur, Member Central Working Committee of Praja Parishad and Member Central Social welfare Board. He was elected to the State assembly for the first time in 1962 on the mandate of Praja Parishad. He was also elected MLA in 1967 and 1977 on the mandate of Jana Sangha. In 1996, Lala Shiv Charan got elected to the Legislative Assembly on the BJP mandate. He remained Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Gupta, who is also the son of Lala Shiv Charan Gupta, said that the departure of the visionary leader left a huge political vacuum. The family is yet to overcome the grief, as Lalaji continues to remain in their hearts and thoughts.

“The month of March is especially difficult for us as a family since this is the month his soul chose to be born in and then leave us all”, Mr Pawan Gupta said in a choked voice adding that this time of the year, the family remains gripped in nostalgia with his fond memories while painfully re-living with the sense of loss.

“Lalaji’s legacy extends beyond the family of course. His magnanimous persona blessed so many people around him and his legacy ensures peace and an improved life for so many of us and also his hypnotic persona lives deep in our hearts and soul”, Mr Pawan added.

Mr Pawan Gupta also highlighted Lalaji’s vision and tireless dedication for the prosperity of the people of Udhampur. He said his selfless services and commitment to the nation will remain an inspiration for all and for the generations to come. He also added that his physical form may have departed 14 years ago but his  eternal light shines on us through the heavens above guiding us through the more challenging paths of life.

The Speakers also hailed the historic victory of the BJP in recent Assembly elections, saying this is only due to the pro people rule over the country by the BJP government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narender Modi.

DDC Chairman Lal Chand, BDC’s Balwan Singh and Jeevan Sharma besides DDC members, Sapanches and Panches also addressed the function.
