Karnah, June 22 (JKNS): Tangdhar Village, the headquarters of Karnah Tehsil and widely regarded as the face of Karnah, is witnessing a notable developmental push under the leadership of MLA Karnah, Javid Ahmad Mirchal.
Several projects relating to infrastructure, healthcare, education, roads, sports, and beautification have either been approved, are under execution, or are awaiting approval.
During a conversation with us, Haji Tasleem, Private Secretary to MLA Karnah, shared details of the developmental initiatives undertaken for Tangdhar during the last one and a half years.
According to him, one of the major achievements has been the inclusion of Tangdhar-A under the Viksit Bharat Programme, under which ₹2 crore has already been approved, while an additional ₹10 crore is expected to be sanctioned in the next phase.
To strengthen educational infrastructure, a Public Library worth ₹65 lakh has been approved for Tangdhar. The library is expected to provide students and youth with improved educational facilities and learning opportunities.
A Clock Tower project worth ₹65 lakh has also been approved and is expected to become a landmark structure while enhancing the beauty and identity of the town.
In another significant development, a Dak Bungalow worth ₹1.66 crore and an Auditorium Hall worth ₹4.19 crore have been approved. These facilities are expected to cater to official functions, public meetings, cultural programmes, and community events.
The healthcare sector has also received attention, with ₹2.50 crore already allocated to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar under the UT Capex Budget for strengthening medical infrastructure and healthcare services. Haji Tasleem clarified that the proposal for the upgradation of SDH Tangdhar from 30 beds to 100 beds has been submitted but has not yet received approval.
Road connectivity projects have also gained momentum. The Tangdhar-Nard Road project under PMGSY, costing ₹3.22 crore, is currently under execution, while the Suliman Road project worth ₹4 crore has been approved under the NABARD Scheme.
According to Haji Tasleem, a Naibat Building project worth ₹32 lakh has also been approved.
One of the most ambitious proposals for the town is the beautification and development of Nallah Batamaji, for which a DPR worth approximately ₹50 crore has been prepared and submitted for approval. The project is expected to improve sanitation, environmental conditions, and the overall appearance of Tangdhar town.
Similarly, the DPR for the upgradation of Chinar Park has been submitted, while the DPR for Lontha Road worth ₹1.98 crore has already been completed.
Highlighting the importance of sports infrastructure, Haji Tasleem said that the Lontha Sports Stadium remains among the top priorities of MLA Karnah. The project, which was initiated during the tenure of former MLA Raja Mansoor, has witnessed significant progress. According to him, ₹3.85 crore has been approved for land compensation related to the stadium project, while the DPR for the construction of the Sports Stadium building has also been submitted for approval. Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide modern sports facilities and encourage sporting activities among the youth of Karnah.
Haji Tasleem further stated that several additional developmental projects are currently in the pipeline and are at different stages of planning and approval.
Speaking on the developmental vision for the region, MLA Karnah Javid Ahmad Mirchal said, “Tangdhar is the face of Karnah and its development remains among my top priorities. We are making every possible effort to bring new projects and ensure that Tangdhar receives the infrastructure and facilities it deserves.”
The developmental initiatives undertaken over the last one and a half years have been widely appreciated by residents. Many people believe that Tangdhar, despite being the headquarters of Karnah, remained relatively neglected in terms of urban development for nearly two decades. They view the recent projects as a positive step towards addressing long-pending developmental needs.
However, residents also point out that alongside major infrastructure projects, several civic issues continue to require urgent attention. The town still lacks functional public washrooms, while street lighting remains inadequate in several areas. The growing stray dog menace has become a matter of concern, particularly for school-going children, elderly citizens, and pedestrians.
Citizens have also highlighted the absence of a proper solid waste management system, resulting in garbage often being dumped into local nallahs and open spaces. The need for a modern drainage network remains another long-pending demand. Residents further stress the importance of maintaining public spaces and ensuring that projects such as the proposed Chinar Park upgradation are implemented in a timely manner.
While appreciating the developmental initiatives undertaken so far, residents maintain that true progress will be achieved when major infrastructure projects are complemented by improvements in essential civic amenities and public services.
With several projects already approved and many more reportedly in the pipeline, Tangdhar appears to be entering a new phase of development. Residents hope that the momentum continues and that both developmental projects and civic concerns receive equal attention in the years ahead. (JKNS)
