The project, led by Dr. Eshrat Ara, Principal Investigator, GCW M.A. Road, in collaboration with Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Co-Principal Investigator, NIT Srinagar, seeks to integrate psychological approaches with STEM education to promote scientific temper, creativity and problem-solving among students.

The first phase began with a three-day Master Training Programme for 35 teachers, followed by three student-training batches involving 165 students. The programme adopted a cascade model, with trained Master Trainers contributing to subsequent student sessions.

Students received hands-on exposure to 3D printing, drones, robotics, sensors and Arduino, besides developing models such as smart dustbins and home-automation systems. Sessions also addressed growth mindset, metacognition, problem-solving, fluid intelligence and management of examination anxiety.

The programme, inaugurated on August 4 by Prof. (Dr.) Yasmeen Farooq, Principal, GCW M.A. Road, also witnessed the inauguration of a dedicated Psy-STEM Lab. Experts from GCW M.A. Road and other institutions facilitated the training.

The Srinagar phase will serve as a pilot for extending the project to border and underserved areas, including Gurez, Uri, Karnah and Keran. The project aims to train 120 Master Trainers and reach over 6,000 students, including 600 students through direct hands-on STEM camps. (JKNS)
