Sources as per news agency JKNS said that the reduced convoy arrangement was implemented during the Prime Minister’s recent visits to Gujarat and Assam following his speech in Hyderabad. The move was carried out while maintaining all essential security components in accordance with Special Protection Group (SPG) protocol.

Sources further said that Prime Minister Modi has also directed officials to include Electric Vehicles (EVs) in his convoy wherever feasible, without making any fresh purchases for the purpose.

The initiative is being viewed as a step towards promoting sustainable practices and reducing the overall logistical footprint of high-level official movement while ensuring uncompromised security arrangements.

In the last 48 hours, Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeatedly appealed to citizens to adopt austerity and fuel-saving measures amid concerns over rising crude oil prices and global supply disruptions linked to the West Asia situation.

He urged people to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport, metro services and carpooling, while also encouraging work-from-home practices, virtual meetings, greater adoption of electric vehicles wherever possible and adoption of online classes.

Prime Minister Modi also called upon citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, minimise non-essential expenditure and support energy conservation in the national interest.

Government sources said Modi stressed the need to save foreign exchange reserves by reducing dependence on imported fuel and products, while also promoting sustainable and self-reliant practices across the country. (JKNS)
