Srinagar, Oct 16 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Friday said that around 2.70 lakh students are expected to appear in Class 10th, 11th and 12th examinations across Kashmir and Jammu winter-zone areas, with 2,602 examination centres established for the three classes.

Speaking to news agency JKNS, JKBOSE Chairman Ghulam Hassan Sheikh said the examination arrangements had been completed in advance, including the appointment of superintendents and supervisors and the delivery of confidential examination material to police stations.

He said a total of 2,602 examination centres had been established, including 1,910 in the Kashmir region and 692 in Jammu’s winter-zone areas, to facilitate around 270,000 students appearing in Class 10th, 11th and 12th examinations.

He said the examinations would be conducted under established procedures, with a focus on maintaining transparency and the integrity of the examination process.

“Students appearing in Class 10th should not worry. This is a normal examination, and there is no need to panic. The papers are designed in accordance with the competencies envisaged under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with an emphasis on analytical and competency-based learning rather than rote memorisation,” Sheikh said.

He said the Board had requested district magistrates to impose necessary restrictions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and asked district police authorities to make adequate security arrangements to prevent outside interference in the examination process.

“The Board has never compromised on the integrity of examinations, and we will not do so in the future,” he said.

Sheikh said the Board had established a grievance monitoring cell this year to address complaints from students, parents and teaching staff. He said dedicated landline numbers and an email facility were being provided to enable people to register their grievances, which would be processed and addressed in accordance with the applicable regulations.

He further said the Board had constituted around 40 vigilance teams to monitor examination centres across districts and ensure the smooth conduct of examinations, while coordination would also be maintained with the School Education Department.

Urging examination staff to deal with students sensitively, Sheikh said invigilators and supervisors should treat candidates with kindness, particularly those appearing in board examinations for the first time.

“Students may feel nervous during their first board examination. I request superintendents, deputy superintendents and supervisors to treat them with love and affection, just as they would treat their own children. At the same time, any attempt to use unfair means must be stopped,” he said.

The JKBOSE chairman also asked students to carefully fill in their roll numbers and paper series details on answer scripts, warning that errors could create difficulties during coding, evaluation and result compilation.

He urged invigilators to verify the details entered by candidates before the answer scripts were collected to avoid discrepancies and delays in the declaration of results.

Appealing to parents to support their children, Sheikh said families should avoid putting unnecessary pressure on students to secure exceptionally high marks.

“Parents should encourage their children and appreciate their efforts instead of putting pressure on them to score 100, 98 or 90 per cent. Excessive pressure can adversely affect a child’s mental well-being,” he said.

Sheikh also highlighted facilities for Children with Special Needs (CWSN), saying eligible candidates with notified disabilities would receive applicable concessions in passing marks. He said the Board had also directed its district offices and concerned officials to facilitate scribes for eligible students who face difficulties in writing due to notified disabilities.

He said the Board was committed to ensuring that examinations were conducted in a fair, transparent and student-friendly environment. (JKNS)
