Srinagar, Sept 23 (JKNS): The Indian Army, under the aegis of Chinar Corps and in coordination with the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), is set to conduct a seven-day mega cataract surgery camp to provide specialised ophthalmic care to underprivileged civilians and veterans from remote areas of Kashmir.
As per news agency JKNS, Indian Army under aegis of Chinar Corps, in coordination with the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), is set to launch a massive seven day specialized medical outreach initiative, “Operation Drishti”.
A Mega Cataract Surgery Camp, from 23 to 30 September 2026, extending advanced ophthalmic care to underprivileged civilians and veterans residing in the remote and challenging terrain of Tanghdhar.
The initiative started with extensive screening camps conducted by 92 Base Hospital across multiple far-flung locations, including Tangdhar, Uri, Bandipora, Khanabal, Kangan, Dawar and Baramulla, through which 400 patients have been identified and shortlisted for cataract surgery.
The pre-event alignment has mobilized a highly specialized surgical team from the prestigious Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, led by Brigadier (Dr.) Sanjay Kumar Mishra, Head of Ophthalmology.
Advanced diagnostic equipment and micro-surgical setups have already been deployed to ensure zero-cost, high-tier care for cataract.
The surgical effort will be undertaken by this specialist surgical team by working in close coordination with 92 Base Hospital and various medical and non-medical units.
The Eye Camp will be conducted in two phases: Phase I (24–25 September 2026) : 200 patients will undergo surgery at the underground Forward Surgical Centre (UG FSC), Ex 328 Field Hospital, Tangdhar.
Phase II (28–29 September 2026) : 200 patients will undergo surgery at 92 Base Hospital, BB Cantonment, Srinagar.
By bringing advanced medical care directly to the doorstep of the local populace, Operation Drishti addresses the acute shortage of specialised ophthalmic facilities in dispersed and remote habitations.
The camp reflects the Indian Army’s sustained commitment to healthcare outreach under Op Sadbhavana and further strengthens the enduring bond of goodwill between the Defence Forces and the people of the Kashmir Valley. (JKNS)
