Srinagar, Jun 25 (JKNS): A 70-year-old woman lost her life after being hit by an unknown vehicle near Merak Shah Asthan in the Shalimar area of Srinagar on Thursday, officials said.

Officials told news agency JKNS, the elderly woman was struck by a vehicle near the shrine, following which local residents immediately shifted her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The injured was later identified as Sara, wife of Late Abdul Gaffar Bhat, a resident of Koker Mohalla, Shalimar, aged about 70 years.

Officials said she was taken to PHC Habak, where doctors declared her brought dead.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot after the accident.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated an investigation to identify and trace the vehicle involved. (JKNS)
