Officials told news agency JKNS that the incident occurred when the duo entered the well for cleaning purposes and suddenly fell unconscious, apparently due to suffocation caused by toxic gases inside the structure.

Soon after the incident, police, SDRF personnel and local residents launched a rescue operation and retrieved the two from the well. However, despite prompt rescue efforts, both were declared dead.

The deceased have been identified as Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, and Aadil Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Ahad Bhat, both residents of Hatmulla Padnal.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy. (JKNS)
