Srinagar, June 17 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma on Wednesday said the 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA Government have been marked by transparency, development, public welfare and transformation across the country, asserting that India has witnessed unprecedented progress in infrastructure, governance, welfare delivery and national prestige since 2014.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar as part of BJP’s “12 Saal Vishwas Ke” campaign, Sharma, as per news agency JKNS, said the NDA Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set new benchmarks in governance and public welfare while ensuring corruption-free administration.
He said that prior to 2014, the country was known for scams and corruption, referring to the 2G spectrum case, Commonwealth Games scam and coal block allocations, but claimed that during the last 12 years, no corruption allegation has been established against the Union Government.
Sharma said India’s global standing has significantly improved under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, adding that Indians today carry a sense of pride and confidence across the world.
Highlighting infrastructure development, the LoP said India has witnessed remarkable expansion in road networks, railway connectivity and airport infrastructure. He said Jammu and Kashmir has now been connected to the national railway network through Vande Bharat trains, describing it as a historic achievement.
He further said that the number of airports in the country has increased substantially over the last decade, while India also successfully managed the COVID-19 pandemic and ensured free ration to nearly 81 crore people.
Sharma said several welfare initiatives have directly benefited the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, Jal Jeevan Mission, PM Awas Yojana and Swachh Bharat Mission.
He claimed that every family in Jammu and Kashmir has benefited from health insurance coverage under Ayushman Bharat, while nearly 12 lakh households received LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme.
The BJP leader also highlighted digital transformation in the country, saying India has emerged as a global leader in digital transactions and financial inclusion.
Referring to housing schemes, Sharma said lakhs of beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir received assistance under PM Awas Yojana, while sanitation facilities were extended to households through the Swachh Bharat Mission.
He said special emphasis was laid on women empowerment through various schemes, including Ladli Beti and Self Help Group initiatives.
On Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma said the security situation has improved significantly compared to the pre-2014 period, claiming that shutdowns, stone-pelting incidents and fear among citizens have largely reduced.
He said parents today send their children to schools and colleges with greater confidence and people are able to conduct their daily activities without disruption.
The LoP stated that youth in Jammu and Kashmir are now focusing on education, employment and entrepreneurship rather than unrest, adding that peace and stability have created new opportunities.
While praising the Union Government’s role in creating a secure environment, Sharma said the responsibility of generating employment now rests with the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir.
