Fire & Emergency Services J&K Conducts Fire Safety Workshop at IUST Awantipora

Awantipora, Mar 12 (JKNS): The Fire and Emergency Services Department Jammu and Kashmir organised a technical session on “Fire Hazards and Safety Audit in Educational Occupancies” during a two-day capacity building workshop held at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora.

According to officials, the session was delivered by Dr. Aqib Hussain Mir, Assistant Director Fire and Emergency Services, who highlighted common fire hazards in educational institutions and stressed the importance of regular fire safety audits, risk assessment and preparedness measures to safeguard students, staff and infrastructure.

The lecture also focused on preventive strategies, emergency response planning and the role of institutional management in promoting a strong fire safety culture on campuses. The programme witnessed participation from the I/C Dean Outreach, Chief Proctor, senior IUST officers, officials from Fire and Emergency Services, faculty members and students.

Later, a practical demonstration on fire safety and the use of firefighting equipment was conducted by Adil Zargar, I/C Station Officer, who trained participants on the proper use of fire extinguishers and basic response techniques during emergencies.

Officials said the programme was organised as part of an ongoing fire safety awareness campaign launched by ADGP and Director Fire and Emergency Services J&K Alok Kumar, aimed at strengthening public awareness and preparedness in educational institutions and other public establishments across the Union Territory.
