‘Fix Reservation Issue Before Dec 20 or I’ll Protest With Students Again’: MP Aga Ruhullah
FacebookTwitterWhatsappTelegram

Srinagar, Nov 24 (JKNS): Srinagar Member of Parliament Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday sharply criticised the prolonged delay in resolving the reservation-related issue affecting thousands of youth across Jammu & Kashmir, warning that he would rejoin the students’ agitation if the government fails to act before December 20.

In a post on X, Ruhullah, as per news agency JKNS, asked what more was needed for authorities to “recognise the despair and suffocation” young aspirants were going through. He said the recent development at Vaishno Devi University should have been enough to awaken the government to the seriousness of the matter.

The MP recalled that the administration had initially promised a six-month timeline last year, “but those six months stretched into a full year.” He added that ahead of the Budgam Assembly polls, officials again assured a resolution within a few days, “yet those days have now turned into over a month with nothing concrete on ground.”

Ruhullah questioned what could possibly compensate for the academic years and job opportunities already lost due to the prolonged delay. He asked whether “personal egos” were preventing the matter from being resolved and whether the youth were being made to suffer because he had raised his voice on their behalf.

He said he would step aside from the issue for a month so that the government cannot claim his involvement is an obstacle. He urged the authorities to engage with students, address their concerns sensibly, and bring the matter to a logical end.

Ruhullah cautioned that if the issue continues to remain unresolved by the end of the Parliament session on December 20, he will again sit with the students “just as we did last December,” adding that this time the protest “will not be limited to a single day.” (JKNS)
