Srinagar, Sep 10 (JKNS): A wave of anger is sweeping across Srinagar colleges after multiple unofficial social media pages, allegedly linked to institutions including Women’s College, SP College, Amar Singh College and others, were found posting videos, confessions, and even student IDs without consent. The issue has sparked a strong public outcry, with both students and teachers demanding the immediate deletion of these pages.

A group of students from different colleges of Srinagar told news agency JKNS that their privacy is being blatantly violated through content filmed inside classrooms and campus spaces.

“These pages are not only spreading fake news but also circulating our details and pictures without permission. It is humiliating and unsafe, especially for girls,” a student from Women’s College wishing anonymity said.

Another student, Aamir Rashid from SP College, said, “We come here to study, not to see our names dragged into online gossip. This must end now.”

Teachers have also condemned the practice, calling it a direct assault on campus discipline. “Such accounts are tarnishing the reputation of our institutions and creating fear among students,” said Professor from Srinagar college. “Uploading classroom videos or posting names of students in so-called confessions is a serious breach of ethics and privacy.”

The misuse of these pages has reportedly hit girl students hardest, with many complaining of being singled out through IDs and confessional posts. “It is a clear violation of dignity when girls are named without consent. This not only affects mental health but also discourages free participation in academic and social activities,” said a teacher Khursheed-ul-Alam.

Students are demanding strong intervention from authorities, including action from cybercrime officials. “We want these accounts tracked and taken down immediately. They are unsafe, unethical, and against every rule of responsible social media use,” said another student.

Others echoed the demand, warning that if no action is taken, the misuse of such platforms will only grow worse.

The controversy has now snowballed into a major public concern, with both students and teachers pressing for a crackdown. They argue that the unauthorized pages not only breach individual privacy but also compromise institutional integrity. Calls for their removal are gaining momentum, with many stressing that safeguarding students’ rights and ensuring a safe academic atmosphere must be treated as an urgent priority.

Meanwhile, in a official Statement Amarsingh college distanced itself from fake unofficial pages.

The college administration informed that these accounts are being used to post content that violates the privacy of students and staff inside the college, involves posting fake news and sharing personal details of students, and contravenes the guidelines on discipline and responsible use of social media repeatedly issued by the institution, and compromises the safety of students while bringing disrepute to the college.

“Of these, some posts including videos, messages, and images recorded inside classrooms and other public spaces of the college, constitute a serious breach of privacy and discipline,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, through this notice, it has informed that all such accounts, details of which are given below, are asked to immediately remove the objectionable content and delete the accounts created in the name of the college or used for sharing content that invades privacy.

Statement mentioned the social media id’s of unofficial pages, “amar.singhcollegeconfessions24 (blue tick); amar-singh-confession-; amarsinghcollegeconfessions_25; amarsinghcollege_comfessions; amarsinghcollege_confession; amarsingh.batch; amarsingh_confession25; amarsingh_confession.25; sarcasm_amarsingh; amarsinghconfession2024; bsc_amarsinghcollege; amarsingh_colleagues; vibzz_from.amarsinghclg; amarsingh_batch2025; Amarsinghconfession2024; amarsingh.clg_confession; amarsinghcollegeconfessions; amarsinghconfessions2022; amar_singhvlogs_; cs_amarsinghcollege; amarsingh_confessions2025; commercebatch2025; amar_singhcollege; Amars.inghcollege; ist_sem_confessions_2025; asc_union; amar_singh.2025; asc.batch_2023; amarsinghcollege_confession24; amarsinghcollege_trolls; amarsinghcollegeconfessions22; amarsinghcollege.confession; amarsingh.vlogs7; college to home; Amarsinghcollegevlogs; amarsingh_clg_memories; amar_singhconfession; amarsinghcollegeconfessions_25; amarsinghcampus_; amar_singh_confession; and Amarsinghcollegesrinagar.”

It also warned that failure to comply with this direction shall invite strict action under the law, reads the statement. (JKNS)
