TN Professor’s Mortal Remains to be Repatriated from Srinagar to Chennai on Monday: JKSA

Srinagar, Sept 7 (JKNS): The mortal remains of Dr. Sagadevan R, an Assistant Professor from Chennai serving at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, will be repatriated to his native state Tamil Nadu on Monday, following his demise due to natural causes.

In a statement, Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) as per news agency JKNS said he reached out to Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, seeking their intervention for dignified transportation of the mortal remains. He also confirmed contacting MPs Manickam Tagore, Karti Chidambaram, BJP State Vice President Khushbu Sundar, and Additional Chief Secretary Gagandeep Singh Bedi.

“All have extended their full support. The Governor and Chief Secretary have conveyed that arrangements are being made for repatriation and airlift from Srinagar to Chennai at the earliest,” Khuehami said, adding that the Governor’s Office also assured ambulance services and onward transport from Chennai Airport, in coordination with the bereaved family.

He further said that all legal and administrative formalities in Srinagar have been completed. “The mortal remains will be airlifted on Monday via an Indigo flight at 11:45 AM. Upon arrival in Chennai, they will be transported to his ancestral home, where last rites will be performed according to family traditions,” he added.

Paying tribute, the Association described Dr. Sagadevan as a dedicated academician, deeply respected for his commitment to students and contributions at NIT Srinagar. “His untimely demise is an irreparable loss not only to his family but also to his colleagues, students, and the academic fraternity,” it said.

The JKSA expressed condolences, stating that their thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family in this moment of grief. (JKNS)
