In the early morning, drivers were seen driving carefully with fog lights on. The cold wave is expected to decrease as wet weather is possible in the coming days.

Jammu and Kashmir is expected to witness another spell of snow and rain from 5th January onwards, a weather official predicted.

Dense fog, which engulfed parts of Srinagar on Friday, caused inconvenience to people and disrupted normal life across Srinagar.

“It was so cold this morning, I could barely feel my hands. The frost made it hard to walk, and I almost lost my balance a few times while heading to my tuition centre. It was a real struggle,” a 10th-class student told JKNS.

“The cold has definitely increased foot traffic at my stall. Everyone needs something hot to stay warm. Despite the chilly weather, it’s nice to see people still coming out for a cup of tea,” a tea stall owner said.

Flight operations at Srinagar Airport were also disrupted due to foggy conditions and low visibility. An official at Srinagar Airport said that flight operations were delayed due to poor visibility, but later resumed.

The Meteorological Office in Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, stated that from the 4th night, light to moderate rain is expected in the plains of Jammu, with snow at most places in J&K. The peak activity is expected during the 4th night to the 5th late night/6th morning, with improvement from the 6th afternoon, he said.

In view of fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperatures, and icy conditions on the roads (plains and higher reaches), tourists, travelers, and transporters are advised to plan accordingly and follow the administration and traffic advisory, he said.

He further added that there is a possibility of heavy snow at isolated higher reaches during the 4th night to the 5th late night. (JKNS)
