“Manmohan Singh was an outstanding statesman. As head of government and in other senior positions, he has done a lot for the economic development of India and the promotion of its interests on the world stage. He also made a great personal contribution to the strengthening of friendly relations between our countries, bringing them to the level of a particularly privileged strategic partnership,” Putin’s telegram read.

Putin noted that he had the opportunity to communicate with this “wonderful man” many times.

“We will keep the brightest memory of him. I ask you to convey my sincere sympathy and support to the family and friends of the deceased, as well as to the entire people of India,” the message read.
