Volleyball League Kalaruch for the year 2022 was organised from 27th to 29th Oct 2022 to foster sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst the youth of Kupwara to include boys and girls. The event was organised under aegis of Indian Army at Govt. Higher Secondary School in Khumriyal.
Six teams participated in the championship and highlighted the equality among boys & girls in the ‘Naya Kashmir’. Four boys team and two girls team participated with Khumriyal Young Bloods and khumriyal Dazzlers being the tournament favourites.
“It’s exciting & pleasing to have such a tournament as it gives the local athletes a
platform to showcase their talent”, said Pir Zada Iqbal resident of Kalaruch, who had
come to support his team.
After three days of exciting league matches Khumriyal Young Bloods emerged as group leaders in boys category. Iqra Gladiators were runners up, while Khumriyal Roares and Kalaruch Panthers got eliminated in group stage.
The grand Finale was played between Khumriyal Young Bloods v/s Iqra Gladiators proved to be nail biting affair. After five closely contested sets, Khumriyal Young Bloods emerged as the winners and were crowned volleyball champions of Kalaruch.
Amongst girls also it was a tough competition between Khumriyal Roarers and Lolab Lioness. The match reminded the audience of the recently concluded Nail biting finish between India and Pakistan. The match was witnessed and appreciated by local audience.
The best part was that there were exciting prizes for all participating teams. The winners were awarded a cash prize of Rs 5000/-, the runners up Rs 3000/- and a consolation prize of Rs 2000 each to the other two teams. The two match referees were also felicitated with a cash prize of Rs 1000/- each.
“This is a great effort from the Indian Army, where we have unified for the greater
good of our community to be able to provide an amazing platform for the boys and girls to express themselves”, said Gulab Mohammad Mir sarpanch of Khumriyal.
