Centre has decided to extend the free ration scheme by three months from September 30, costing an additional ₹45,000 crore to the national exchequer, according to sources. An official announcement is expected later today. The scheme that started during pandemic in 2020, provides 5 kg of free food grains per person per month among the poor.
