Srinagar, 24 June 2021. In a function organized at Army Goodwill School, Budkot (Handwara), Lieutenant General DP Pandey, General Officer Commanding, Chinar Corps dedicated and renamed the school as ‘Ashutosh Army Goodwill School, Budkot’, in memory of Late Colonel Ashutosh Sharma. The gallant officer had Commanded Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, Handwara. He made the supreme sacrifice during an anti-terrorist operation on 02 May 2020. An Officer and Gentleman, he was admired by the local population of Rajwar area for his bravery and caring attitude. The officer was awarded Double Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry) for exhibiting exceptional courage while leading anti-terrorist operations. The function was attended by Mrs Pallavi Ashutosh Sharma, wife of Late Colonel Ashutosh Sharma through video streaming. Senior officials of Army, Police and Civil Administration besides prominent civilians and students of Army Goodwill School, Budkot attended the event.
Since, its establishment in April 2004, Army Goodwill School, Budkot has emerged as a premier educational institution in North Kashmir by not only providing quality education but also focusing on the overall development of its students. The school has thus been appropriately renamed after the officer, who spent five years in Rajwar as Second in Command and later as Commanding Officer of the battalion. Due to his immense contribution for upliftment of Army Goodwill School & wellbeing of locals, he will remain a source of inspiration for the students and the people of North Kashmir.
Speaking on the occasion, General Officer Commanding applauded the dedication and commitment of Late Colonel Ashutosh Sharma for bringing peace and stability in the area. He also exhorted all present to support and contribute towards ongoing efforts of Government for bringing lasting peace and normalcy in Kashmir. Towards the end, the General Officer complimented the School for its continued outstanding performance in all spheres.
