*Naik Pandurang Gawade Mahadev* was recruited in 14 Maratha LI and was serving in *HUMDARD-E-KUPWARA (41 Rashtriya Rifles)*.
Based on specific input of presence of five terrorists *Operation Chak Drugmulla* was launched by *HUMDARD-E-KUPWARA (41 Rashtriya Rifles)*. On 21 May 2016, while displaying raw courage, most conspicuous gallantry in the face of mortal danger Naik Pandurang Gawade *eliminated one terrorist*. This gave a breakthrough in the operation and led to elimination of four more foreign terrorists.
During this fierce exchange of fire, Naik Pandurang Gawade got critically injured and was shifted to Base Hospital, Srinagar, there too he fought to survive but later *succumbed to his injuries on 22 May 2016*.
He gave 15 years of his life for the selfless service of India and laid down his life for the nation. Apart from that he was a great hockey player too for which he will always be remembered by all the players who played with him.
For displaying valour, courage and selfless service Naik Pandurang Gawade has been awarded *Shaurya Chakra (Posthumously)*.
In his remembrance Humdard-E-Kupwara (41 Rashtriya Rifles) today *laid Wreath in the war memorial to salute the supreme sacrifice that he made in the line of duty.*
