RAJOURI, APRIL 15: The District Advisory Committee on the implementation of the PCPNDT Act in the district met today  here under the chairmanship of the District Development Commissioner, Vikas Kundal.

Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT) 1994 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to stop female foeticides and arrest the declining sex ratio in India and the act banned prenatal sex determination.

Threadbare discussions were held on various issues which included registration & renewal of ultrasound centres,  implementation of preconception and prenatal diagnostic techniques Act, Regulation of GCCs, Labs and Clinics, Offences and penalties, Provision of registration, Inspection, mechanism for monitoring and implementation of PC&PNDT Act, holding of IEC activities for general awareness etc.

The meeting was informed that there are 29 ultrasound clinics in the district including 26 private and 03 Government.

It was further apprised that there are 113 private clinical establishments in the district including private hospitals, private labs, X ray clinics, eye clinics, CT scan, Physiotherapy centers, Endoscopy, MRI, dental clinics, de-addiction centers and day care/ polyclinics are registered with health department.

The DDC stressed upon effective implementation of the PCPNDT Act and asked for conducting random inspections of ultrasound clinics to enforce its compliance. “Special teams will be constituted to conduct inspections of the ultrasound clinics to identify and penalize the defaulters” he said.

To ensure the maintenance of proper radiation levels in the x-ray clinics, he asked the ACR to conduct random inspections  to check the compliance by the operators.

Moreover, the ACR was further directed to maintain the district register of clinical establishments.

The meeting was attached by the ASP, Vivek Shekhar; ACR, Imran Rashid Kataria; CMO, Dr Shamim Un Nissa Bhatti;  MS GMC &AH, Dr Anees Altaf Nabi; DHO, Dr Khalid; DSWO, Wakeel Ahmed Batt; DIO, Narinder Kumar; KK Langher.
