ADDC Kishtwar Kick starts Plantation Drive under IWMP

KISHTWAR, MARCH 13: Additional District Development Commissioner Kishtwar Sham Lal today kick started the Plantation Drive here in a program organised under the production system component of the Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP) of Department of Land Resources (DoLR).

The program was organised here at Tourism Reception Centre (TRC) under the close supervision of Project Manager, IWMP, Zakir Hussain Wani.

Among others who participated in the programme were Chairman, BDC Kishtwar, Suresh Sharma, Sarpanch Pyt Hidyal, Matta A,B  Pochal A-1 and 2 besides chairman, watershed Committees and other prominent persons from different areas of IWMP Project 1 of district Kishtwar.

It is pertinent to mention that IWMP is distributing the saplings of the apple and other fruit bearing trees under production system component 1 and further 4 more components designated for the district will be conducted soon.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADDC stressed upon PRIs to rope in  the locals/ youths in the  plantation drive under production system Component of the IWMP as it is the pre-emptive initiative  for the protection of the soil erosion and conservation of the groundwater in the Hilly areas like District Kishtwar.

The Project Manager, IWMP Zakir Hussain Wani informed  that the watershed Department was conducting many other programs to prevent the soil erosion in the district, particularly in the  vulnerable and flood prone areas to counter the catastrophes like flood  threats and is leaving no stone unturned.

A similar program was conducted at Panchayat Tipri, where the farmers were seen enthusiastically taking fruit plants of apple and walnut variety under flagship program of plantation under IWMP scheme.
