DCJ holds 5-day workshop-cum-training prog for students at EMMRC

Srinagar, Nov 29:  To enhance the audio-visual skills of 3rd-semester students, the Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Central University of Kashmir, (CUK) organised a 5-day workshop-cum-training programme from November 22 at Educational Multimedia Research Center (EMMRC), University of Kashmir.
Speaking at the inauguration, Director (In-charge), EMMRC, Mr. Shafkat Habib stressed the need for such workshops for skill enhancement of the students pertaining to TV production. “With an aim to hone the skills of students, the workshop has been designed to acquaint them with the practical exposure required for television production and to provide a milieu for working under deadlines,” he said.
Producer, Mr. Aijaz Ul Haque, during a session on scriptwriting for television, emphasised the importance of writing for television production, and said the writing is central to all the media of mass communication. “Writing is essential to all forms of mass communication. Therefore, TV is not an exception,” he added.
Pertinent to mention that during the workshop, students were provided hands-on training, and were equipped with the basic knowledge of multi-camera set-up, lighting, sound mixing, etc. Besides two short films “Barg-i-Hayat” and “Talash”, students also made a news capsule during the training.

Thanking CUK Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, Dr Arif Nazir, Head, DCJ, in his valedictory speech enumerated the efforts of Dean School of Media Studies, Prof. (Dr) Shahid Rasool and Director EMMRC, Prof. Saleema Jan for making the workshop instrumental in honing the audio-visual skills of students. “Such workshops provide a bonhomie environment to the students thus giving fruitful results. I thank the whole management of EMMRC for making this successful,” he said, adding that, “the department seeks continuous collaboration with the EMMRC for such endeavours in near future.”
Earlier, the programme coordinator, Sr. Assistant Professor, Dr. Asif Khan urged both the departments to organise another 15-day workshop that could help students broaden their field of experience. “Such workshops are always instrumental in providing students practical exposure,” he added.
