Pattan Court Convicts Man in Cheque Bounce Case, Awards One-Year Jail Term

Pattan, July 10 (JKNS): A local court in Pattan on Friday convicted a man in a cheque dishonour case and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment. The court also directed him to pay compensation of Rs 5,39,600 to the complainant.

The judgment as per news agency JKNS, was delivered by the Court of Sub-Judge Pattan, Anjeet Singh, in a complaint filed under the provisions relating to cheque dishonour.

The convict, Mohd Abbas Waza, son of Mohd Sadiq Waza and a resident of Kripalpora, Singhpora, was found guilty in a complaint filed by Mohd Aslam Bhat, son of Mohd Akbar Bhat, a resident of Nihalpora, Pattan, Baramulla.

According to the case records, the complaint was instituted on February 4, 2019, after the accused allegedly issued cheques amounting to Rs 3,80,000 in favour of the complainant. However, the cheques were dishonoured upon presentation, prompting the complainant to initiate legal proceedings before the court.

After examining the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court held the accused guilty and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment. The court also directed him to pay Rs 5,39,600 as compensation to the complainant.

Advocates Towseef Gani and Muneer Ahmed Dar represented the complainant during the trial proceedings.

The verdict underscores the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring accountability in cheque dishonour cases and providing legal relief to aggrieved parties under the law. (JKNS)
