Hoteliers Association Meets SMC Commissioner; Civic Infrastructure and Sanitation Measures Reviewed

Srinagar, Jun 3 (JKNS): A delegation of the Hoteliers Association on Wednesday called on the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mr. Faz Lul Haseeb, IAS, and held detailed deliberations on a range of civic, sanitation, and urban service-related issues affecting the hospitality sector across Srinagar.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted concerns regarding sanitation management, waste collection, cleanliness of public spaces, and the need for intensified civic interventions in areas witnessing significant tourist footfall and a high concentration of hotels and guest houses. The members urged the Corporation to undertake focused sanitation drives and strengthen routine civic services in these localities to ensure a cleaner and more welcoming urban environment.

The representatives emphasized that maintaining high standards of sanitation and civic infrastructure is essential not only for the hospitality industry but also for enhancing the overall visitor experience and reinforcing Srinagar’s image as a premier tourist destination.

Giving a patient hearing to the issues raised by the delegation, the Commissioner assured the members that all genuine concerns would be addressed in a time-bound manner. He reiterated SMC’s commitment to providing efficient civic services and maintaining robust sanitation standards across the city.

The Commissioner further stated that the Corporation remains focused on stakeholder engagement and collaborative governance, recognizing the important role of the tourism and hospitality sector in the economic growth of Srinagar. He emphasized that sustained coordination between civic agencies and industry stakeholders is vital for creating a clean, sustainable, and tourist-friendly urban ecosystem.

Senior officers of the Corporation, including Joint Commissioners, the Chief Revenue Officer, concerned Sanitation Officers, and other officials, attended the meeting and took note of the issues and suggestions put forth by the delegation for appropriate follow-up action.

The members of the Hoteliers Association expressed their appreciation to the Commissioner and the SMC officers for the constructive interaction and for the assurance extended towards the resolution of the issues raised during the meeting. (JKNS)
