Kulgam, May 31: Kulgam Police have intensified their ongoing crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. As part of the anti-narcotics drive, more than 7 kanals of illegally cultivated poppy were destroyed over the past four days in the Kund area.

On Friday, a special police team led by SHO Police Station Kund, Dilber Ahmad, launched a focused operation against narcotic drug cultivation. The drive was carried out on the directions of SSP Kulgam, Sahil Sarangal (IPS), and under the close supervision of ASP National Highway Mumtaz Bhatti, SDPO Qazigund Mansoor Ayaz. The team conducted raids in Village Halnoo and adjoining areas of Kund, where illegal poppy crops were located and destroyed.

In a statement, Kulgam Police reiterated their warning to individuals involved in the cultivation of poppy or other narcotic substances, urging them to destroy the crops voluntarily or face stringent legal consequences. “The drive will continue in the coming days with the objective of eradicating this menace from its roots,” the statement read.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with the civil administration as part of a broader strategy to curb drug abuse and its sources in the district. Police officials emphasized their commitment to a “zero-tolerance policy” against narcotics and reaffirmed their resolve to make Kulgam a drug-free district.

The local community has widely appreciated the efforts of Kulgam Police. Residents of Kund and surrounding villages welcomed the action, stating that such measures are vital to safeguard the future of the younger generation from the dangers of drug addiction.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and report any illegal cultivation or suspicious activity related to narcotics to the police.
