Washington: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Moderna’s new COVID-19 vaccine, the company said on Saturday.
“Moderna, Inc. [NASDAQ:MRNA] today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA] has approved mNEXSPIKE [mRNA-1283], a new vaccine against COVID-19, for use in all adults 65 and older, ” the company’s statement read.
The approved vaccine can also be used for individuals aged 12-64 years with at least one or more underlying risk factor as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the company said, adding that the vaccine is intended for people who have received a COVID-19 vaccine before.
Moderna is a US pharmaceutical company based in Cambridge, state of Massachusetts. Its activity focuses on development of vaccines. In December 2020, its COVID-19 vaccines were approved for emergency use in the United States.
