Srinagar, Sept 25 (JKNS): National Conference MLA Nazir Ahmad Gurezi on Friday raised the issue of the Urdu language being missing from the official question paper of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, questioning the circumstances behind its omission.
Raising the issue in the House, as per news agency JKNS, MLA Gurezi said, “Kya yeh saazish ke tahat jaan-boojh kar khatam ki ja rahi hai? Urdu hamari pehchaan hai.”
Responding to the issue, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said the matter falls under the Government of India and that the issue has already been taken up with the concerned authorities.
The Speaker said the Assembly has requested that Urdu be included again in official documents, stressing that the language is an important part of the region’s identity. (JKNS)
