Srinagar, Sept 23 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday reacted to remarks by BJP members concerning Sheikh Abdullah, saying the role and sacrifices associated with the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir’s history could not be forgotten.
The remarks were made in response to comments by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma over Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, following a face-off between the NC and BJP over holiday remarks concerning Maharaja Hari Singh and Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
Speaking to reporters, CM Omar, as per news agency JKNS, questioned the BJP’s historical narrative and referred to the role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the BJP’s predecessor organisation during the freedom movement.
“Everyone knows their role in the fight for freedom. Everyone knows who apologized and what they did,” CM Omar said.
He said the role of Sheikh Abdullah, whom he referred to as Sher-e-Kashmir, and the sacrifices made by the National Conference could not be erased from history.
“No one can forget the role of Sher-e-Kashmir here. The sacrifices that were made in the National Conference,” he said.
Omar alleged that the BJP had developed a tendency to present history differently when it disagreed with something.
“BJP has become a habit, when they don’t like anything, they try to present history in a new way. They have tried in this too,” he said.
He added that his party would continue to put forward its position on the issue. (JKNS)
