Srinagar, Sept 9 (JKNS): Spanish filmmaker and producer Anna Saura Ramon on Wednesday described Kashmir as a promising destination for international filmmaking, highlighting its scenic locations, lakes, natural light and hospitality while calling for stronger cinematic collaboration between India and Spain.
Speaking to reporters on the third day of the inaugural International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK) at SKICC Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, Saura said film festivals play an important role in connecting filmmakers and audiences from different parts of the world.
“This is my first visit to Kashmir and India. I hope to come again,” she said, expressing her interest in exploring Srinagar and experiencing its local culture.
Talking about Kashmir’s potential as a filming destination, Saura said the Valley offers filmmakers a combination of scenic landscapes, lakes and favourable natural light.
“Of course, you have to promote Kashmir. There are great locations, good light for shooting and beautiful lakes,” she said.
She said stronger cooperation between governments and the film industry could help attract international productions to Kashmir, expressing confidence that filmmakers and studios could eventually consider the Valley for movie projects.
On India-Spain cinematic collaboration, Saura said differences between the two film industries should not become a barrier to artistic cooperation.
“I think we can push for better relationships between India and Spain,” she said, adding that filmmakers from both countries could explore opportunities to work together.
Asked about casting Indian actors in a potential India-Spain production, she said there was no reason filmmakers could not collaborate with Indian artistes.
Saura also praised the inaugural IFFJK, calling it an important initiative and expressing hope that the festival would continue for years.
“It is important for everyone,” she said, adding that such festivals provide audiences an opportunity to discover international films and create platforms for filmmakers from different countries to connect.
The Spanish filmmaker further praised Kashmir’s hospitality and overall atmosphere, describing her first visit to India and Kashmir as a positive experience.
