Two POCSO Accused Escape from Central Jail Srinagar; Lookout Notices Issued

Srinagar, Aug 26 (JKNS): Police have arrested two POCSO accused who had allegedly absconded from Central Jail Srinagar, during the intervening night of August 25-26 in Rajasthan, officials said.

A senior J&K Police officer told news agency JKNS that the arrests were made following a tip-off and inputs shared by Srinagar Police, which had been closely tracking the accused during the investigation.

“The arrest was carried out in cooperation with the State Police at the instance of and on the tip-off provided by Srinagar Police, which was closely following the matter during the investigation of the case,” the officer told JKNS.

The accused, Farman Khan and Mukhtar Gujar, were among the two persons who had allegedly escaped from Central Jail Srinagar, following which police issued lookout notices and intensified efforts to trace and apprehend them.

Further legal proceedings are underway, the officer said.

On Sunday, August 23, the two accused, who were lodged in Central Jail Srinagar in connection with separate POCSO cases, had allegedly fled from the jail. Following their escape, police issued lookout notices to trace and apprehend them. (JKNS)
