EOW Kashmir Chargesheets Man for Allegedly Attempting to Bribe Crime Branch Officer

Srinagar, Aug 18 (JKNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a Budgam resident for allegedly attempting to influence and interfere with an ongoing Crime Branch investigation by transferring ₹10,000 to the bank account of an Investigation Officer, officials said.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, EOW Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, in case FIR No. 28/2026, against Ghulam Ahmad Ganie S/o Ghulam Mohammad Ganie, R/o Mirgund, District Budgam, for commission of cognizable offences punishable under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 228 and 229 of the BNS.

The investigation was initiated on the basis of a written complaint alleging that the accused, who is also an accused in the ongoing investigation of FIR No. 11/2021 of Crime Branch Kashmir, now EOW Kashmir, transferred an amount of Rs. 10,000/- into the bank account of an Investigation Officer with the alleged intention of bribing and influencing the investigation in the said case

Upon receipt of the complaint, a probe was ordered. During the course of investigation, the allegations were thoroughly examined and relevant evidence was collected. The investigation established the involvement of the accused in the alleged act, following which the chargesheet was prepared and presented before the Hon’ble Court for judicial determination in accordance with law.

The general public is advised not to offer or pay bribes to any public servant for obtaining any favour or service. Any demand for bribe or involvement in corrupt practices should be immediately reported to the competent authorities for necessary legal action. Public cooperation and timely reporting are essential to curb corruption and promote transparency and accountability. (JKNS)
