New Delhi, Aug 7 (JKNS): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said the Opposition cannot insist on a particular Union Minister responding to an issue in Parliament, asserting that the government has the authority to decide who will represent it during debates and discussions.

Rijiju made the remarks amid continued disruptions in the Lok Sabha,as per news agency JKNS, stating that the government is ready to discuss issues raised by Opposition parties but cannot accept demands dictating which minister should respond.

“The Opposition cannot dictate which minister will come to the House and respond. It is the government’s decision to decide which minister will reply,” Rijiju said, appealing to Opposition members to allow Parliament to function normally.

He said repeated disruptions were affecting legislative business and preventing meaningful discussions on matters of public importance. Rijiju urged political parties to uphold the dignity of Parliament and use the House as a platform for debate rather than disruption.

The remarks came amid Opposition protests demanding responses from specific senior ministers, including the Union Home Minister. The government maintained that parliamentary practice allows it to nominate the appropriate minister to respond to questions or debates.

Rijiju further appealed to the Opposition to cooperate in ensuring the smooth functioning of both Houses so that pending legislative and public business can be taken up. (JKNS)
