Baramulla, Aug 3 (JKNS): Reaffirming the National Conference’s unwavering stand on the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, Health and Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday said the party would continue its struggle until the goal is achieved, while announcing a series of welfare initiatives for women, Anganwadi workers and economically weaker sections.

Addressing a public outreach programme in Baramulla, as per news agency JKNS, Minister Itoo said the Omar Abdullah-led government remains fully committed to securing the restoration of statehood.

“Statehood restoration is our solemn commitment. We still call Jammu and Kashmir a state and will continue to do so until it is restored. The National Conference will never back down from this demand,” she said.

The minister said the government has consistently worked for the welfare of Anganwadi workers and helpers, acknowledging their contribution to society despite receiving low honorariums.

She announced that the government has prepared a Cabinet memorandum proposing compassionate appointment to a family member of a deceased Anganwadi worker without issuing any public advertisement.

“The employment will remain within the family of the deceased worker. We are also working to relax the age criteria for contractual workers,” she said.

Itoo said the proposal to enhance the honorarium of Anganwadi workers is pending with the Central Government, but the present administration has continued to pursue their welfare.

The minister also announced that marriage assistance for poor women has been enhanced from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000, while pensions for widows and senior citizens have also been increased.

She further said the government has introduced free education for girls up to Class 12 to reduce dropout rates and promote girls’ education across Jammu and Kashmir.

Urging officials to intensify awareness campaigns, Itoo said people must be informed about various welfare schemes so that benefits reach deserving beneficiaries without delay. (JKNS)
