Srinagar, July 28 (JKNS): The body of a 25-year-old youth, who had allegedly jumped into the River Jhelum at Sempora in the Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar, was retrieved on Tuesday after a five-day-long search operation carried out jointly by rescue agencies and local volunteers, officials said.
Officials told news agency JKNS that the deceased identified as Sajad Ahmad Mir, was a resident of Balhama, Srinagar.
He had reportedly jumped into the River Jhelum on July 23, following which an extensive search operation was launched.
The search operation was conducted jointly by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Quick Response Team (QRT), Pantha Chowk, SDRF QRT Battalion Headquarters Srinagar, along with local volunteers, who carried out continuous searches along the river over the past four days.
Officials said the body was finally recovered on Tuesday, bringing the prolonged search operation to an end.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the matter and further legal proceedings are underway. (JKNS)
