Karnah, July 21 (JKNS): The Sub-Divisional Administration Karnah launched an immediate response after heavy overnight rainfall triggered landslides at several locations after rising water flow in Droyi Nallah along the Kona–Gabra road, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters.
Acting without delay, the administration deployed men and machinery to the affected areas and initiated restoration work on a priority basis. Earthmoving equipment was pressed into service to remove debris and reopen the Kona–Gabra–Chirkunji road, restoring connectivity for local residents.
To review the situation on the ground, SDM Karnah Reyaz Ahmad visited the affected sites accompanied by officials from the PWD (R&B), Jal Shakti, Power Development Department (PDD), Revenue, and Agriculture Departments. The team inspected vulnerable stretches and interacted with local residents, who highlighted locations where accumulated debris needed to be cleared to prevent waterlogging and reduce the risk of flooding.
Meanwhile, officials from the Revenue and Agriculture Departments carried out field inspections to assess any damage to crops, land, or other property caused by the heavy rainfall and landslides.
The administration has appealed to residents to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, and stay away from nallahs and streams, as further rainfall has been forecast.
Officials stated that the Sub-Divisional Administration is maintaining close surveillance of the situation through its field staff, while adequate manpower and machinery have been kept on standby to respond swiftly to any emergency. (JKNS)
