Kulgam, July 21 (JKNS): The District Administration Kulgam, in coordination with Kulgam Police, on Tuesday released the performance report of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, highlighting extensive awareness campaigns, stringent action against drug networks and large-scale rehabilitation efforts that collectively reached over 3.31 lakh people, led to the arrest of 96 drug peddlers, and brought 363 individuals under structured rehabilitation during the campaign.
Police spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS stated that, Marking the successful completion of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (11th April – 20th July 2026), the District Administration Kulgam and in coordination with Kulgam Police, released a performance report covering the campaign’s three pillars — Demand Reduction, Supply Reduction and Rehabilitation. The campaign was launched under the guidance of Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha.
Under Demand Reduction, the district organised Special Gram Sabhas across all 178 Gram Panchayats reaching 29,876 participants, a four-tier school and college competition framework covering 598 schools, and sports tournaments engaging 48,996 youth, including a Mega Marathon (4,268 runners) and Yoga Programme (7,653 participants). A highlight was the Mega Pad Yatra led personally by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor through Kulgam town on 1st June 2026. Community outreach included 431 rallies, a Wall Painting Drive across 26 public spaces, sensitization of religious leaders and traders, and a plantation drive of 2,589 saplings — taking overall awareness reach to over 3,31,790 people.
On the Supply Reduction/enforcement front, Kulgam police registered 85 NDPS FIRs and arrested 96 drug peddlers. Kulgam Police seized 57.964 kg and destroyed 1,143.764 kg of contraband, recovered ₹13,700 in drug money, and attached 11 properties worth ₹5.78 crore across 10 cases, besides demolishing 8 illegal structures valued at ₹3.67 crore. Illegal cultivation of poppy (25 marlas) and wild cannabis (57 kanals 3 marlas) was destroyed, and 28 kanals of government land retrieved and 11 red entries in Jamabandi entered. Authorities also cancelled 34 driving licences and 22 vehicle RCs, 387 bank accountd frozen, conducted 23 Narco-CASOs, inspected 235 medical shops (27 licences suspended), and trained 92 investigating officers.
On Rehabilitation, the Addiction Treatment Facility, District Hospital Kulgam, has registered 2,141 patients to date, with 2,019 on medication and 10,567 counselling sessions conducted. During the campaign, 363 persons were brought under structured rehabilitation through a 48-hour referral pathway through drug de-addiction center by Government of India, with 48 youth enrolled in livelihood and self-employment schemes under Mission YUVA.
Reaffirming its commitment to eradicating the drug menace, the District Administration and Kulgam Police urged citizens, particularly the youth, to support law enforcement by reporting drug trafficking on 112, and reiterated their resolve to make Kulgam a completely drug-free district. (JKNS)
