Srinagar, July 17 (JKNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Jammu and Kashmir, posted under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), in a bribery case.
The CBI registered the case on July 16, 2026, against the accused based on a complaint alleging that the complainant’s house was damaged during the execution of the PMGSY road project connecting Thathri to Kathawa in Doda district, making him eligible for compensation of approximately ₹10 lakh.
It was alleged that the accused Assistant Engineer demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 for processing and releasing the compensation amount.
According to the CBI, after negotiations, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of ₹30,000 from the complainant.
The CBI laid a trap on July 16, 2026, and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹30,000 from the complainant.
Further investigation into the case is underway. (JKNS)
