Srinagar, July 16 (JKNS): The Meteorological Department Srinagar (MeT) has forecast a fresh spell of widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 19, with peak weather activity expected on July 21 and 22, while warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods, landslides and waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
Director MeT, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, as per news agency JKNS that the weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid from July 16 to 18, with the possibility of brief spells of rain and thundershowers at a few places.
He said July 19 is likely to remain partly cloudy with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, while brief intense heavy showers are expected at isolated locations, particularly in the Jammu division.
Dr. Ahmad further said that from July 20 to 23, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with several spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places across Jammu and Kashmir, with peak activity on July 21 and 22. During this period, heavy rain and brief intense showers are likely at a few districts of both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
He added that July 24 and 25 are likely to witness brief spells of rain and thundershowers at a few places.
Issuing an advisory, the MeT Director warned of the possibility of heavy rainfall and brief intense showers during July 19 and from July 20 to 22, particularly during late afternoon, evening, night and early morning hours.
He said there is a possibility of flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations of the Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal Range and some hilly areas of Kashmir division during July 20-22.
The department has also warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, minor flooding and a significant rise in the water level of rivers, streams and local nallahs, especially in the Jammu division.
Dr. Ahmad advised farmers to suspend all farm operations from July 20 to 23, while urging travellers, transporters, tourists and trekkers to plan their activities accordingly and remain updated with weather advisories. (JKNS)
