Official sources told news agency JKNS that a Counter Intelligence team raided the Samagra Shiksha headquarters at Channi Himmat in Jammu, where officials, including the Director, were questioned in connection with the case.

Simultaneously, another team carried out searches at the office of a publisher in Noida, officials said, adding that the raids were continuing when reports last came in.

The books under investigation are “Personalities and Legends of J&K”, authored by Hilal Ahmad and Santosh Meena and published by Jammu-based Oberoi Book Service, and “Great Personalities of Jammu and Kashmir”, authored by Sushant Giri and published by Delhi-based Anurag Prakashan.

According to officials, 123 copies of one book were supplied to schools in Jammu, Ramban and Udhampur districts, while 128 copies of the other were distributed in Jammu and Baramulla districts.

An FIR has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity, endangering the sovereignty and integrity of India, and circulating objectionable material, along with Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Officials said investigators have seized both physical documents and digital evidence during the searches. No arrests have been made so far.

The investigation comes days after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha suspended eight School Education Department officials, disengaged a contractual employee, ordered a high-level inquiry and blacklisted the authors and publishers of the two books after objections were raised over their alleged content.
