Srinagar, July 4 (JKNS): A 16-year-old boy lost his life after drowning while bathing in the Dachigam Nallah at Theed Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar, on Friday, while another boy is undergoing treatment in critical condition, officials said.

Officials told the news agency JKNS that the deceased has been identified as Basit Bashir Akhoon (16), son of Bashir Ahmed Akhoon, a resident of Akhoon Mohalla, Sadaikadal, Srinagar.

The two boys drowned while bathing in the stream. They were rescued by police personnel and local residents and immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.

However, Basit Bashir Akhoon succumbed to his injuries despite efforts by doctors.

The second boy, reportedly a Class 11 student from Srinagar, remains admitted in critical condition, and his health is being closely monitored by doctors.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings. (JKNS)
