Karnah, June 30 (JKNS): Residents of the border area of Karnah are facing increasing hardships due to the prolonged shortage of electricity and safe drinking water. Despite clear weather conditions, the entire Karnah subdivision has been affected by a power outage caused by a fault in the Soporez-Arm Pora 33 KV transmission line, prompting widespread concern among the local population.
Residents said that power disruptions during winter, when heavy snowfall damages transmission lines, are understandable to some extent.
However, they questioned the prolonged outage during favorable weather, saying it raises serious concerns about the efficiency of the concerned department.
Speaking to media, Executive Engineer of the 33 KV line, Junaid Mir, said that the department is working on a war footing to restore the damaged transmission line and that electricity supply is expected to be resumed soon.
He further explained that during the summer months, some people set trees on fire while staying in highland grazing areas (behaks). As a result, the trees become hollow from the inside and later fall onto power lines due to strong winds or other reasons, repeatedly disrupting electricity transmission.
Meanwhile, several areas of Karnah continue to suffer from an acute shortage of safe drinking water. Local residents said that despite repeated complaints and protests, the concerned department has failed to provide a permanent solution, leaving people to struggle with a basic necessity of daily life.
The residents have appealed to the administration and the concerned departments to ensure the early restoration of electricity and take immediate measures to provide an uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water so that people living in the border region are not deprived of essential basic services.(JKNS)
