Budgam, June 27 (JKNS): Thousands of mourners participated in peaceful 11th Muharram processions, Noha, Marsiya, and Khawani recitations across Magam, Beerwah, Sonpah, and Khanpora Khag areas of Budgam district on Saturday, commemorating the supreme sacrifice of Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala.

Mourners from different villages joined the religious observances with devotion and discipline, while members of both the Shia and Sunni communities displayed a remarkable spirit of communal harmony, brotherhood, and mutual respect.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan (IAS), along with SSP Budgam, Hari Prasad K.K. (IPS), visited Magam and Beerwah to review the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of the 11th Muharram observances. The officers also joined the Muharram procession in Magam and interacted with mourners, volunteers, and local residents.

The officers were accompanied by Additional SP Budgam Syed Sajjad Bukhari, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Beerwah Toufeeq Gazi, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gulzar, SDPO, Tehsildar Magam, SHO Magam, and other concerned district officers.

The district administration had put in place comprehensive arrangements for security, traffic management, parking facilities, uninterrupted electricity and drinking water supply, healthcare services, sanitation, and other essential amenities to ensure the peaceful and smooth conduct of the religious processions.

The Deputy Commissioner and SSP also participated in serving drinking water, juice, and refreshments to mourners at various points along the procession routes. They appreciated the efforts of volunteers, local organizations, and Sabeel committees for providing free drinking water, juice, and refreshments to participants throughout the day.

 

Meanwhile, the traditional Zuljanah Sharif procession was held peacefully at Khanpora, Khag, attracting thousands of mourners from different villages. Religious gatherings and Zuljanah processions were also organized at Karldaji and the Markazi Imam Bargah, where mourners paid homage to the martyrs of Karbala through Noha recitations, Marsiya, and other mourning rituals.

 

Security arrangements in Khag were supervised by SHO Khag Mudsir Ahmad, while Tehsildar Khag, Naib Tehsildar Khag, officials of the Revenue Department, the Health Department, Police, and other line departments remained on duty throughout the day to ensure seamless coordination and uninterrupted public services.

 

Medical teams, ambulance services, sanitation staff, and other field officials remained stationed at key locations, while volunteers played a significant role in guiding mourners, maintaining discipline, and distributing water and refreshments during the processions.

 

The Deputy Commissioner expressed gratitude to all government departments, religious organizations, volunteers, civil society members, local residents, and security personnel for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the peaceful and successful observance of the 11th Muharram across Budgam district. He also appreciated the exemplary communal harmony displayed by the people, stating that their collective cooperation ensured the observances concluded peacefully, with dignity and mutual respect.
